- Excavation: Remove all organic topsoil and soft clay before applying GAP 20. A solid sub-grade is vital for the performance of the aggregate.
- Layering: For driveways, apply in layers (lifts) of no more than 100mm at a time to ensure full compaction through the entire depth.
- Mechanical Compaction: Use a heavy plate compactor or roller. For best results, lightly dampen the metal to help the fines bind the larger stones together.
- Finishing: For a smooth paving surface, top your compacted GAP 20 with a thin layer of GAP 7 or Paving Sand to fill any minor voids before laying stones.
