Calculating Your Mulch Needs
To figure out how much mulch you need, just multiply the length of your garden bed by its width, then multiply that by the depth of the mulch you want. So, to accurately determine the amount of mulch required for your garden, you’ll need to know these measurements:
1. Garden Bed Dimensions
Length: Measure the length of your garden bed in metres.
Width: Measure the width of your garden bed in metres.
2. Desired Mulch Depth
Standard Depth: 10cm (4 inches)
Premium Depth: 15cm (6 inches)
Using Our Mulch Calculator
Input Your Dimensions: Select the length and width of your garden bed from the calculator fields.
Select Depth: Choose the desired mulch depth (standard or premium).
A Note on Mulch Depth
The optimal mulch depth varies depending on plant type and climate conditions. Over-applying mulch can lead to issues like moisture retention and root rot, especially in humid climates.
Trees: A depth of 5-6cm (2-2.5 inches) is generally sufficient. Ensure the mulch doesn’t touch the tree trunk to prevent rot.
Garden Plants: A depth of 5cm (2 inches) is ideal for most vegetable and flower gardens.
Winter Protection: For perennials, consider increasing the depth to 7cm (3 inches) during winter months to provide additional insulation.

- 1 trailer load = 0.7 cubic meters
- 1.5 trailer loads = 1 cubic meter
- 3 trailer loads = 2 cubic meters
- 4.5 trailer loads = 3 cubic meters
